If you saw anything suspicious please report to the police or neighbourhood watch co-ordinator

Update 21.08.08

3 suspects have already been arrested for this crime thanks to the power of neighbourhood watch!

Confirmation of Sherrifhall Closures starting 17th August - Bypass opening delayed

The A68 bypass opening has been delayed for 2 - 3 weeks.

Now confirmed - Suns 17 Aug, 24 Aug, 31Aug - closure of the Sheriffhall roundabout from 0030 in the early hours of Sunday morning to 0500 in the early hours of Monday morning.

East-west and west-east traffic already on the Edinburgh Bypass will be allowed to run through Sheriffhall roundabout, but none of the other 4 roads joining at the roundabout will be open -

- A7 to P+R, Danderhall, ERI, Edinburgh
- A6106 to Newton, Millerhill, Musselburgh
- old A68/new A6106 to Lugton/Dalkeith
- A7 to Bonnyrigg/Newtongrange

During the Sunday closures, a bus shuttle will operate between the ERI, Danderhall and the Park and Ride site to provide a link for Danderhall residents to join the bus services that would normally have run past Danderhall.

The bus services that would normally have used the A7 from Edinburgh via Sheriffhall will divert to run via Ferniehill Drive, Gilmerton and past Dobbie's to rejoin their standard routes south of Sheriffhall.

If there is poor weather forecast on the previous Thursday, the Sunday programme may be postponed - the Sunday work is intricate and needs fine weather.

Keep track of media announcements for the latest updates on this project.

The Big Cousland Dig

The Big Cousland Dig came to a conclusion last month with the investigation of The Windmill on Southfield Road in conditions reminiscent of The Somme!
Thanks to all who have helped to make this project a big success. A concluding talk will be held in the Autumn, meanwhile the report is being written up and will be submitted to The Lottery Fund by the end of the month.

Neighbourhood Watch Alert

Please be on the alert!

Two males were spotted wandering round the village at 3.30am by a resident going to work on Thursday 24th July.

They were parked up in Hadfast Road and another resident heard noises about the same time.

Please take note of details such as registration and make of vehicle and descriptions of the people if you do see anything suspicious and alert the Loanhead Incident Room on 0131 311 3131 and your neighbourhood watch co-ordinator who will follow it up with the police.

Villagers warned to look out for fuel thieves

A spate of fuel thefts has been reported across Midlothian and East Lothian following the recent dramatic rise in fuel prices.

Organised gangs are targeting large tanks at farms and homes, with 12 incidents reported since May in this area. In addition, high costs have made scrap metals an equally inviting target for thieves.

Residents living in rural areas, and particularly those living on farms, are being advised to keep fuel, scrap metal and outbuildings secure. If you are going away on holiday, ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your property for you.

If you see any suspicious activity then please report it to the police immediately.
